Red Bulls Hold Steady in Week 12 Power Rankings

By Frank Della Femina

The Red Bulls hold relatively steady in Week 12 Power Rankings after the team closed out its recent match against Chivas USA with a 1-1 draw.

Tie or not, the Red Bulls salvaged a point and remain unbeaten in six straight. That alone is cause for many power rankings around the web to keep the club within the same Top 3 range.

With the next three weeks of the season occupied by U.S. Open Cup action, combined with the simultaneous break for FIFA obligations, we'll carry these rankings with us up until when we return to regular season play on June 17.

We'll start things off this week with Soccer by Ives, as they've ranked the Red Bulls the lowest of the three sites in this week's installment (and that's with the slight promotion from last week's fourth overall). Still, holding down the No. 3 spot in SBI rankings is nothing to shy away from.

"The Red Bulls' five-game winning streak is no more after being held to a draw by Chivas USA, but the club still has not lost since bottoming out in D.C. on April 22, and is just a point of United's pace in the East with two games in hand. With stars and starters returning to health, the Red Bulls are set up for a successful summer."

The next two, MLSsoccer.com and ESPN Soccernet, each ranked the Red Bulls second overall; which is to say, kept them right where they were in the Week 11 rankings.

Here's what MLSsoccer.com had to say:

"Even the stoniest of hearts in section 101 had to soften a little when Juan Pablo Ángel got that spectacular midweek goal. Their old captain may have helped snap New York's winning streak, but "unbeaten in six and getting healthy" is a nice tag to wear right about now."

And finally, here's ESPN's take:

"New York supporters paid their proper respects to former Red Bull Juan Pablo Angel, but would have preferred the Chivas forward not score in a 1-1 draw. New York's win streak was stopped at five but it remains unbeaten in six."

There ya have it. That's where the Red Bulls are ranked coming out of Week 12. What's your take on these rankings? Comment below.
