NYRB player ratings: Lindpere leads

Midfielder gets top score; Sassano dinged for early red card

It's always tough rating players after a 4-0 loss in which the team played much of the match down a man. The defeat to San Jose is just the second of the season for New York, but it came after a solid run of three straight wins by the club.

MLSsoccer.com takes a look at the player ratings for Saturday’s loss on the road to the Earthquakes.

GK – Bouna Coundoul – Peppered with shots on goal but was very slow to get down on the Quakes’ second goal, essentially sealing the game for San Jose. Rating: 6

D – Luke Sassano – Not a good challenge on Bobby Convey to get that early red card. By no means malicious but a reckless challenge. Rating: 2

D – Mike Petke – Got dinged in the wrist in the second half but played solid overall despite the team being a man down. Rating: 6

D — Tim Ream – Poor giveaway in the 23rd minute almost gave San Jose a goal, and he got all messed up on San Jose’s third goal. Not a good night for the rookie—his first dud in a New York kit. Rating: 4

D — Roy Miller – Shouldn't judge Miller on constantly slipping in the first half as others struggled on this front too. Rough night for the whole defense, but Miller was okay. Rating: 5

M — Dane Richards – Have to like his pluckiness in switching to right back following the red card. Got forward a few times and whipped in some crosses. All things considered, not bad. Rating: 6

M — Seth Stammler – Did some hard work defensively, but his distribution was suspect at times. Rating: 5.5

M — Joel Lindpere – Generated the little bit of offense the Red Bulls had off set pieces. He also had a good scoring chance in the first half on a shot that went wide. Rating: 6.5

M — Tony Tchani – Some nice through balls and passing, though his early yellow card seemed unfortunate. Tough game to make his first MLS start as a rookie. Rating: 6

F — Ibrahim Salou – Battled and fought for a couple chances. Didn’t create too much but wasn’t given too much to work with either. Rating: 5

F — Juan Pablo Angel – Difficult night for Angel, who looked slow and was limited at best. He’ll bounce back, as he always does. Rating: 4

Substitutions

D — Jeremy Hall – Second half insertion was a good move by Backe as Hall moved well up the flank. Overall was solid. Rating: 6

D — Danleigh Borman — Looked good on the left side and made some nice forays forward. Once again, a solid enough appearance by Borman. Rating: 5.5

M – Sinisa Ubiparipovic – Came on with too little time to do too much. Didn’t get much chance to shine and did little with few chances. Rating: 5
