Barclays today announced that it will be the inaugural title sponsor of the Barclays New York Challenge, the international soccer tournament that will take place between July 22 and July 25, 2010 at Red Bull Arena, home of the New York Red Bulls.
The tournament will feature two of the top teams from the Barclays Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, as well as Sporting Club de Portugal (Sporting CP), one of Portugal’s leading teams, and the home team, the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer.

“Barclays is one of the world’s leading investment banks, with a significant presence in North America and a growing presence in wealth management and credit cards in the region. This is a great opportunity to sponsor a new soccer tournament in one of the most exciting sports markets in the world.”
Christian Eidem, Chairman of World Series Football Limited said, “The tournament will take place at the 25,000 seat Red Bull Arena that was officially opened earlier this year and has already established itself as one of the best soccer stadiums in the USA.”
