Red Bulls Academy Update: June 6

U14s win second straight Northeast Pre-Academy League Championship, defeating Cosmos, 7-0

U-18s Split Road Games: The Red Bulls U-18 team went 1-1 over the weekend. After falling 2-0 at Albertson on Saturday, the Red Bulls defeated FC Westchester 4-1.

The Red Bulls U18s started the game brilliantly as they scored two goals in the first 10 minutes. In the sixth minute, Scotty Thomsen slotted the ball past the goalkeeper from a Brandon Allen pass. Then in the ninth minute, Kyle McCord finished from a great pass from Sean Davis. The Red Bulls continued to put pressure on FC Westchester and were unlucky not to get a third goal. Kyle McCord had a great chance just go wide in the 23rd minute and Konrad Plewa saw his shot from 25 yards deflect just past the post. The score remained 2-0 at the half. However, FC Westchester responded well at the beginning of the second half and made the score 2-1 when Hiroki Kobayashi finished in the 47th minute. In the 78th minute, forward Brandon Allen made the score 3-1 when he chipped the ball into the back of the net over the FC Westchester goalkeeper and several defenders from 25 yards out after a brief scramble for the ball. Then in the 81st minute the U18s made the score 4-1 with the goal of the game. Plewa made a surging run forward and played a perfect pass to split the FC Westchester defense to McCord. McCord then one timed a perfect cross into the box for Christian Johnson to bang into the net from eight yards out.

“It was a relief to get back to winning after losing two games in a row. We focused on playing our game and getting back to things that have made us successful in the past,” Plewa said.

U-16s Split This Weekend: The Red Bulls U-16 Academy team split their weekend matches. After a loss to Albertson on Saturday, the Red
Bulls regrouped and trumped FC Westchester 4-1. Amando Moreno paced the
Red Bulls with a hat trick, while Ross Tetro added the other goal. Adam
Najem picked up two assists.

U-14s Capture Second Straight Northeast Pre-Academy League Championship:
The Red Bulls U-14s defeated the New York Cosmos in the title game to
win its second straight Northeast Pre-Academy League Championship. Four
first half goals set the Red Bulls on their way, and they finished the
match off with a 7-0 victory.

“Bob Montgomery and I are very proud of the way the players represented
our academy on and off the field this season,” U-14 head coach Jeff Zaun
said. The U-14s finished the season with a 34-1-2 record, and had 11
players called into National Team camps.
