Academy Update: Red Bulls Sides Combine for 2-1 Record Against Revolution Academy

The Red Bulls' U-14, U-16 and U-18 sides took on the Revolution Academy this past weekend

The Red Bulls’ Academy sides faced the New England Revolution’s Academy teams this past weekend, posting a 2-1 overall record in yet another combined winning weekend for New York.

The Red Bulls’ U-14 side, who earlier this year suffered a 2-1 loss to New England, exacted revenge on the Revolution Saturday in shutout fashion with a 3-0 finish. New York picked up its first goal on the day in the first minute of the second half when Markez Zalla slipped behind the defense to score his first of two goals. Ten minutes later it was Zaire Bartley who helped the Red Bulls double up, before Zalla slotted home his second to round out the day and improve the team’s overall record to 22-1-1.

In U-16 action, the Red Bulls defeated New England 1-0 Sunday afternoon thanks to a strong header from Kevin Politz off an Anthony Viteri corner kick midway through the first half. Evan Louro was up to the task in goal, earning the clean sheet as the U-16 squad picked up its 14th shutout of the season.

New York’s U-18 side suffered its first loss of the season in a 4-2 loss to the Revolution. The Red Bulls were unable to rebound from an early 2-0 deficit, but managed to trim the lead to one in the 72nd minute when Adam Najem sent home a volley into the upper-left corner. The Revs tallied another to pull out in front 3-1, but New York fought back again to trim the lead to 3-2 thanks to an Alex Muyl finish in the 82nd minute. Despite creating chances for the equalizer, New England put the game out of reach for New York in the final minutes, walking away with the victory in a 4-2 final.

The Red Bulls’ U-13s and U-15s had the weekend off and will return to action next week.
