Red Bulls Eager to Play Three Straight Matches in Front of the Home Crowd at Red Bull Arena

The Red Bulls are set to host the Galaxy, Crew and Whitecaps in a three-game home stand

After taking one point on the road at Gillette Stadium Saturday and simultaneously extending the current unbeaten streak to five-straight matches, the New York Red Bulls return home to Red Bull Arena for a three-game home stand over the next three weekends.

The first of three home matches kicks off this Sunday, May 19, when the Red Bulls host the LA Galaxy for the first and only meeting between the two sides this season. New York will not only look to extend the current streak with a result against LA in front of the home crowd, but also extend the club’s regular season unbeaten streak against the Galaxy to five-straight as well.

In recent years, New York has pieced together positive results during the regular season against LA, starting with a 2-0 win at The Home Depot Center on Sept. 24, 2010. During the 2011 season, New York went 1-0-1 against the Galaxy before losing both legs of the postseason on a 3-1 aggregate. New York bounced back the following year with a 1-0 win on the road during a May 5 meeting at The Home Depot Center.

On the following Sunday, May 26, the Red Bulls will host the Columbus Crew in the second of three regular season matches. The Red Bulls walked away with a victory at Crew Stadium on May 4 thanks to a timely goal from midfielder Tim Cahill toward the latter stages of the match.

Columbus dropped its second straight match this past weekend in a 2-0 loss to the Colorado Rapids. They’ll visit Toronto FC the weekend of May 18 prior to visiting Red Bull Arena, a venue where they have not beaten New York since the building’s inaugural 2010 season; a 3-1 victory over the Red Bulls. All-time, Columbus is 1-1-1 at Red Bull Arena and 23-25-7 in the all-time head-to-head.

The Red Bulls’ home stand closes out on Saturday, June 1, when they take on the Western Conference Vancouver Whitecaps in a 7:00 PM kick off. Like all left coast clubs, New York and Vancouver will only face off once during the regular season. Oddly enough, both the Red Bulls and Whitecaps are winless in their two previous match ups– that is to say, they’re tied in ties.

During the Whitecaps’ MLS debut in 2011, they tied New York 1-1 at Red Bull Arena. The following year, the Red Bulls took the trip out to Vancouver, where they also tied 1-1 thanks to some late heroics from Heath Pearce that allowed New York to salvage a point on the road. Can New York get the better of Vancouver when the two clubs meet this season? We’ll just have to wait and find out.
