Red Bulls Midfielder Tim Cahill, Defender David Carney Called Up for Australian National Team

Cahill, Carney called up for Australia's friendlies against France, Canada

New York Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill and defender David Carney have both been called up by the Australian national team for the upcoming FIFA International Date. Both are expected to be available for the Red Bulls’ next MLS match on October 20 against the Houston Dynamo.

Cahill and Carney departed on Sunday to join the Socceroos for their upcoming friendlies against France and Canada. Australia will face the French on October 11 at the Parc Des Princes in Paris before travelling to face Canada at Fulham FC’s Craven Cottage in London on October 15.

The Socceroos qualified for the World Cup on June 18 with a 1-0 win over Iraq. Cahill was subbed off for eventual goalscorer Josh Kennedy in the 77 th minute. Carney did not feature in the result. Since qualifying, Australia have gone 0-3-1, their latest result a 6-0 loss in a friendly against Brazil in Brasilia.

In his first full season in MLS, Cahill leads the Red Bulls with 10 goals scored, his most recent a dramatic 97th-minute equalizer against the New England Revolution on October 5. Since joining New York on August 8, Carney has started six games, going the full 90 in each contest.
