HARRISON, NJ (June 25, 2014) – New York Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill has been nominated for a 2014 ESPY in the category of Best MLS Player, as announced on Monday, June 24.
Cahill, along with the Montreal Impact’s Marco Di Vaio, the LA Galaxy’s Robbie Keane and the Chicago Fire’s Mike Magee, are the four nominees for the Best MLS Player ESPY award. The 2014 ESPY’s, hosted live by Drake, take place on Wednesday, July 16 at the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles at 8:30 PT.
Fans have the chance to select the winners by voting online at ESPN.com/ESPYS. Voting ends July 16.
Cahill, now in his third season with the Red Bulls, was nominated after a solid 2013 MLS regular season campaign. The Australian led the Red Bulls in scoring with 11 goals and added five assists in his first full season in Major League Soccer.
Cahill also played a crucial part in helping the Red Bulls secure the MLS Supporters’ Shield in 2013, scoring seven goals and adding two assists in the final 11 games of the regular season.
The midfielder is expected to rejoin his club this week after playing in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. In his third World Cup, Cahill scored two goals in two matches for the Socceroos during the group stage.
