Acquired:  Signed after rights were traded from Toronto FC on December 13, 2013 in a deal that included a swap of 2014 draft picks and New York sending a 2015 draft pick to Toronto.

2013: Appeared in 24 games, three with Kansas City and 21 with Toronto FC after a May trade… Notched one goal and four assists, all with Toronto, and was a regular starter … Started Kansas City’s first two games of the year but was traded to Toronto on May 16 … Made his Toronto debut as a halftime sub two days later in a 1-0 loss vs. Columbus … Notched assists on both goals in dramatic 2-1 comeback win vs. Columbus on July 27, as Toronto scored in the 87th and 94th minutes for the win … His only goal of the season was a game-tying strike in a 1-1 tie at former club D.C. United on Aug. 24 … Assisted game-tying goal in 1-1 tie vs. Chicago on Sept. 11 … Played in the 200th regular-season game of his MLS career in 2-0 loss at Red Bull Arena on Sept. 14.

2012: Appeared in 16 games, making 14 starts, in his first season with Sporting Kansas City but missed three months due to injury … Notched a goal and two assists … His only goal of the year was the opener in a 2-1 loss at Chicago on May 12 … Assisted on only goal in 1-0 win vs. defending MLS Cup champion LA Galaxy on April 7 … Left game after seven minutes due to injury on Aug. 4 at New England … Had appeared in 15 of 23 games at that point but did not play again until Oct. 20 … Playoffs: Appeared as a late substitute in the Eastern Conference semifinal series first leg at Houston on Nov. 4 … Was an unused substitute in the second leg on Nov. 7 … U.S. Open Cup: Did not make an appearance as Kansas City won its second Open Cup championship … Other: Came on as a substitute in 3-0 friendly loss vs. French club Montpellier Herault on July 24.

2011: MLS All-Star … Appeared in 21 matches for the San Jose Earthquakes, tallying two assists and scoring the game-winning goal against New England on May 21 … Earned second straight All-Star selection after being named to squad by then-New York coach Hans Backe … Started at left back for MLS All-Stars at Red Bull Arena in 4-0 loss vs. Manchester United.

2010: MLS All-Star, MLS Comeback Player of the Year … Started in 28 of the San Jose Earthquakes’ 30 regular-season games and produced a career-high 10 assists, including tying for the league lead with five game-winning assists, while adding one goal … Tied a career high with three assists on May 8 in 4-0 win vs. Red Bulls, his only multiple-assist game of the season … Playoffs: Played all 180 minutes of Eastern Conference semifinal series against Red Bulls and had two goals and an assist in 3-1 second-leg win at New York on Nov. 4 as Earthquakes rallied to win series 3-2 on aggregate … Played all 90 minutes in Eastern Conference championship game on Nov. 13, a 1-0 loss at Colorado … Other: Started and played first half in friendly vs. Tottenham Hotspur on July 17.

2009: Returned to MLS with the San Jose Earthquakes, appearing in 26 games and providing one goal and two assists … Scored first goal with San Jose in 3-3 tie vs. Chicago on April 11 … Missed time due to a hamstring injury … Played the full 90 minutes in the final seven matches … Open Cup: Appeared as a substitute in Open Cup qualifying match against Red Bulls on April 29 … Other: Came on as a substitute in friendly vs. Salvadoran club Águila on Sept. 8.

2004-09: Signed with English club Reading prior to the 2004-05 campaign … Integral part of the Reading team that won the Football League Championship in 2005-06 to earn promotion to the English Premier League for the first time in club history … Made nine appearances in the Premier League and played in three FA Cup matches in 2006-07 … Finished his Reading career with 110 matches in all competitions, scoring eight goals.

2003: Played in 19 matches for D.C. United, contributing two goals and one assist … Both goals came in a 3-2 win at Dallas on May 31, including an 89th-minute game-winner … Playoffs: Appeared in both legs of playoff series against Chicago.

2001: MLS All-Star ... Posted seven assists, a career high at the time, in only 12 games for D.C.
