A combined U18 and U16 New York Red Bulls Academy side will take on
the U16 Atlas (Mexico) side following the Red Bulls and Colorado Rapids
Major League Soccer match on Saturday, September 11 at Red Bull Arena.
The MLS match will kick off at 4:00 PM ET.
Atlas is a historic
Mexican club renowned for developing young talent, including the Red
Bulls’ own Rafa Marquez, who came up through Atlas’ youth system and
began his professional career for the Guadalajara based side in 1996.
The
U16 Atlas side earned the trip to New York and the right to play at Red
Bull Arena by winning the Red Bull Battle Del Toro last month in
Texas. Atlas defeated Chivas, 2-1, in the final.
Red Bull Battle Del Toro
is a spirited, fiercely competitive homage to the Battle of the Alamo –
soccer style. Throughout this three-day tournament, four U16 teams from
Texas featuring some of the state’s biggest phenoms clashed cleats with
four U16 teams from Mexico boasting some of the country’s top emerging
stars.
The teams that competed were: Club America – Mexico
City, Tigres UANL – Monterrey, Atlas – Guadalajara, Chivas de
Guadalajara – Guadalajara, Classics Elite – San Antonio, Dallas Texans –
Dallas, FC Dallas – Dallas, and Albion Hurricanes – Houston.
All matches were played at the STAR Soccer Complex, the premier soccer facility in South Texas.
