Four Red Bulls Called for International Duty

HARRISON, NJ (August 29, 2012) – The New York Red Bulls announced today that midfielders Tim Cahill (Australia) and Joel Lindpere (Estonia), defender Roy Miller (Costa Rica) and goalkeeper Bill Gaudette (Puerto Rico) have been called up by their respective national teams for matches surrounding the upcoming FIFA dates on Sept. 7 and 11.


All four players are expected to be back in the New York area on Sept. 12 and will return to training the following day in preparation for the team’s Sept. 15 match when the Red Bulls host the Columbus Crew at Red Bull Arena at 7:00 PM (Tickets: www.newyorkredbulls.com; 1.877.RBSOCCER).


Cahill joins Australia for an international friendly against Lebanon in Beirut on Sept. 6, followed by a 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualification match at Jordan on Sept. 11. Australia is currently in third place in the Asian Football Confederation’s Group B, with two draws in its two matches. Cahill, who will be looking to make his 56th international appearance for Australia, joined the Red Bulls as a Designated Player on July 26. He scored his first goal as a Red Bull on Aug. 19 against the Portland Timbers and has also registered two assists in four matches.


Estonia called Lindpere in as they begin Group Play in UEFA qualification for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Estonia will host Romania on Sept., 7 in Tallinn before traveling to Istanbul to take on Turkey on Sept. 11. Lindpere recently made his 79th appearance for Estonia back on Aug. 15 in a 1-0 victory over Poland in an international friendly. The midfielder has appeared in 89 matches since joining the Red Bulls in 2010, scoring 13 goals and adding 18 assists.


Miller and Costa Rica will face Mexico in back-to-back CONCACAF third round qualification matches for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The first showdown is in San Jose, Costa Rica on Sept. 7 while the second takes place on Sept. 11 in Mexico City. The Ticos currently trail Mexico for first place in Group B with four points through two matches. Miller, who hopes to earn his 32nd cap, has made 78 appearances as a Red Bull since 2010, registering 11 assists.


Gaudette is coming off a stellar international performance for Puerto Rico on Aug. 15 when he made eight saves in a close 2-1 loss to reigning UEFA Euro and FIFA World Cup Champions Spain. Puerto Rico will play three matches in Group A of the 2012 Caribbean Championships in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, beginning with a match against Bermuda on Sept. 7. On Sept. 9, Puerto Rico will face St. Martin before finishing up against the hosts, Haiti, on Sept. 11. Since joining the Red Bulls from the L.A. Galaxy in mid July, Gaudette has posted a record of 4-2-2 with three shutouts and a goals against average of 1.25.
