U18s:  The U18 Red Bulls traveled to Mercer County Community College on Friday night, October 22 and earned a 1-1 tie. The first half saw the Red Bulls dominate possession and come close to taking the lead on several occasions. Kyle McCord (Chester Springs, PA) hit the post on one attempt and narrowly missed another and Juan Agudelo’s (Barnegat, NJ) shot from the corner of the box curled around the outside of the top right corner. However, despite the Red Bulls dominance of possession the score remained 0-0 at the half. In the second half, Mercer had a couple of chances before a Red Bulls handball led to a penalty kick in the 63rd minute. Mercer midfielder and U23 Red Bulls player, Kadeem Dacres (Rosedale, NY), slotted the penalty into the lower left corner to give Mercer the lead. The U18s continued to apply pressure and in the 77th minute were awarded a free kick outside the top right corner of the penalty box. Agudelo curled the direct kick around the wall and into the corner of the net to level the match at 1-1. In the closing seconds, Brandon Allen (Old Bridge, NJ) narrowly missed a header from a Sean Davis (Holmdel, NJ) corner kick that would have won the game.

“We were pleased with our efforts against one of the top Junior College teams in the country. I thought we played a great first half but could not sustain that in the second half. The coaches talked about that, as we could have finished the game at half-time if we finished our chances. However, we are still a few weeks away from our opening US Development Academy game and will continue to work to improve certain aspects of our game,” stated U18 midfielder Sean Davis.

Lineup: Santiago Castano , Paul Ehrenworth (Antonio Matarazzo 70’), Kyle Roach, Bryan Gallego, Richmond McCarthy (Edison Sanchez 73’), Sean Davis, Dan Metzger, Juan Agudelo (Damian Bziukiewicz 80’), Christian Johnson (Matt Bouraee 70’) Brandon Allen, Kyle McCord (Ross Tetro 70’).

U16s:  The Red Bulls U16s did not play last week.

U15s:  The Red Bull U15s did not play last week.

U14s:  The U14 Red Bulls stayed unbeaten (12-0-0) as they defeated U14 NJSA on Sunday, October 24 at Rutgers-Newark. Joe Swenson (Massapequa Park, NY) led the offense with two goals and two assists and the defense was led by Brandon Tetro (Freehold, NJ) and Kevin Politz (Morganville, NJ) as the U14s registered their sixth straight shutout. Alex Gogic (Fort Lee, NJ) was in goal for the Red Bulls and registered two saves.

NOTE: The U14 Red Bulls have five players attending the U14 US National Team Camp this week in California. Wes Wade (South Orange, NJ), Gianni Carillo (Pine Bush, NY), Evan Louro (South River, NJ), Theo Miller (Brooklyn, NY), and Wilson Rios (Elizabeth, NJ) will be in camp from Oct. 24-31. Central defender Billy Stevens (New Hyde Park, NY) was also invited but will miss due to injury.

U13s:  The U13 Red Bulls tied U13 FC Westchester 3-3 on Sunday, October 24 at Rutgers-Newark. The Red Bulls found themselves 1-0 down early on in the game, but Anthony Sileo (Mahwah, NJ) scored to tie up the game midway through the first half. Orestis Sousonis (Dover, NJ) was then taken down in the penalty area. Sousonis stepped up and converted the PK. The U13s then made it 3-1 when Callum Johnson (New York, NY) scored from 30 yards out into the top corner. FC Westchester then scored two goals after some poor defending by the Red Bulls. Sousonis was again taken down by the goalkeeper and had a chance to win the game with the last kick of the game, but his penalty kick hit the post.

“We are disappointed for how we gave the game away, winning 3-1; we weren't able to seal the game up. We made mistakes that allowed them to come back,” said head coach Antonio Meza.  “There are a lot of positives and at times we looked pretty good. We will keep working to improve on those silly mistakes. I'm pretty sure that we will keep getting better, it is a very good group of players and we have to consider that they have been together only for two months.”
