Red Bulls Academy Update: May 2

U-18ā€™s beat Albertson, draw FC Westchester: The Red Bulls U18ā€™s tied FC Westchester 1-1 on Saturday despite missing several players that were called into play with the Red Bulls reserves. Prior to the U-18 game against FC Westchester, Brandon Allen, Sean Davis and Dan Metzger all started for the Red Bulls reserves against West Virginia University.

The U18ā€™s started the game very quickly and scored in the sixth minute when Konrad Plewa crossed into the box for Kyle McCord to head home. The U-18ā€™s dominated the early stages of the game but could not get the second goal. FC Westchester gradually got back into the game and leveled the score from a set piece in the 32nd minute when Hiroki Kobayashi finished past Red Bulls goalkeeper Keith Cardona. In the second half, the Red Bulls peppered the FC Westchester goal with numerous shots but could not find the back of the net.

ā€œThe FC Westchester goalkeeper was outstanding today,ā€ said U-18 defender Brandon Adler. ā€œWe could just not find the second goal. I think if we scored the second goal earlier in the game when we had a good spell of possession we could have gotten the victory today.ā€

On Sunday, the U18ā€™s played brilliantly as they beat Albertson 4-0. The U-18ā€™s started the game well by opening the scoring in the second minute. Clint Caso played an excellent through ball to Scotty Thomsen and Thomsen blasted home from a tight angle. In the 17th minute the lead was doubled when Allen scored from a Bryan Gallego cross. The U-18ā€™s made the score 3-0 in the 33rd minute when Allen scored his second goal of the game from a Thomsen pass. The Red Bulls continued with some attractive attacking soccer in the second half and made the score 4-0 when Thomsen scored the goal of the match when he blasted the ball into the net off a volley from a Metzger cross.

ā€œWe played some very good attacking soccer today,ā€ said U-18 head coach Paul Oā€™Donnell. ā€œWe are gradually getting back key players from injury and the evidence of our quality today was our result, as Albertson are a very good team. Scotty Thomsen was perhaps our Man of the Match, his work rate was excellent and his goals were top notch.ā€

U-16 Red Bulls drop two over weekend: In the first game, the Red Bulls fell to FC Westchester by a final of 3-0. Despite having most of the chances and possession, the Red Bulls failed to capitalize and gave up three second half goals to FC Westchester.

The second game of the weekend was a very evenly contested match. In a good, competitive game, Albertson scored a spectacular second half goal which proved to be the difference as the Red Bulls fell 2-0.

U-15 Red Bulls tie and win in weekend games: In a thrilling game on Saturday, the U-15 Red Bulls came back from a 4-1 deficit in the last 30 minutes to tie Westchester 5-5. Karl Ceasar led the rally with two goals.

The U-15s carried that momentum into Sundayā€™s game as they beat Albertson by a final of 4-1. Ceasar again led the team in scoring with three goals and Vin Brunetti added the fourth for the Red Bulls.

U-14 Red Bulls sweep weekend games against Westchester and Albertson: The U-14 Red Bulls picked up a win on the road Saturday by defeating fourth place FC Westchester by a score of 6-0. Stephen Elias and Chris Lema led the way with two goals each. Wes Wade and James Buonavita each added one in the victory.

On Sunday, the Red Bulls continued their high scoring ways by defeating Albertson by a final of 9-0 on Long Island.

"I thought offensively it was the best we've played in awhile," said Head Coach Jeff Zaun.

U-13 Red Bulls pick up Sunday win: The U-13 Red Bulls scored early on a penalty kick by JC Obregon and never looked back, defeating South Central 3-0. Anthony Sileo scored the next two goals on assists by Malik Steward to round out the scoring for the Red Bulls.
