Kicking + Screening Soccer Film Festival Opens On Wednesday

New York, NY — The 3rd annual Kicking + Screening (K+S) Soccer Film Festival, presented by the New York Red Bulls, kicks off Wednesday, July 20th with the New York premiere of Argentina Fútbol Club at the world-famous Tribeca Cinemas.

The festival runs from Wednesday, July 20, through Saturday, July 23, and includes four other feature films: Rise & Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story, Soka Afrika, Match 64, and The Referee.

“Golden Whistle” Jury Prize
K+S also announced today the launch of the “Golden Whistle” jury prize, to be awarded to the top feature film at the K+S/NY 2011 festival.

The “Golden Whistle” will be awarded following the final film of the festival, on Saturday, July 23.

Jury panel:
Stephen Colvin, CEO of The Newsweek Daily Beast Company. A Belfast native, Colvin is a lifelong Liverpool FC fan and cofounder with his two sons of the PASS (Pass to Africa Soccer Support) charity.

Jurgen Mainka, Vice President of Communications and Community Relations for the New York Red Bulls. Mainka has been a communications executive in the US soccer industry for more than a decade, but still wishes he had been “a film major.”

Rachel Markus, cofounder and codirector of K+S. Always an avid fan of and participant in the beautiful game, she studied film at NYU and has worked in the film industry since 2002.
