Six Red Bulls Called for International Duty

HARRISON, NJ (September 29, 2011) –New York Red Bulls defenders Tim Ream (United States), Rafa Márquez (Mexico) and Roy Miller (Costa Rica), midfielder Dane Richards (Jamaica), forward Juan Agudelo (United States) and goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul (Senegal) were all called up by their respective national teams for matches during the FIFA international match days from Oct. 7 to Oct. 11.

Ream and Agudelo were called up by United States head coach Jurgen Klinsmann for the Americans’ upcoming friendlies versus Honduras and Ecuador. The U.S. will host Honduras on Saturday, Oct. 8 in Miami Gardens, FL, and the American men make their first ever appearance at Red Bull Arena on Tuesday, Oct. 11, when they take on Ecuador at 8:00 PM ET. Ream has earned six caps for the United States, including five starts, while Agudelo will be looking to make his 13th international appearance. This season with the Red Bulls, Ream has started 24 matches and has registered one assist in 2,160 minutes. Agudelo, the youngest player to ever score for the United States, is fourth on the Red Bulls in scoring this season with six goals and has notched two assists in 22 appearances.

Mexico will host powerhouse Brazil on Tuesday, Oct. 11 in Torreon, Mexico. Márquez, the current captain of the Mexican National Team, had earned 108 caps for his country. In his second season with the Red Bulls, Márquez has played in and started 15 matches, registering four assists.

Miller was called in by Costa Rica for their friendly against Brazil on Friday, Oct. 7 in San Jose, Costa Rica. Miller, who has made 51 appearances in two seasons with the Red Bulls, will hope to earn his 23rd cap for Costa Rica.

After an impressive spell in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup, Richards returns to the Jamaica squad for its Tuesday, Oct. 8 clash against fellow CONCACAF side Honduras in La Ceiba, Honduras. Richards has seven goals in 32 appearances for Jamaica, and is one of the Reggae Boyz’ top midfielders. He is in the midst of his best statistical season with the Red Bulls, with six goals and seven assists in 23 matches. This season, Richards has launched himself into the top-10 in New York’s history in both goals scored and games played.

Coundoul helped Senegal clinch a spot in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations when he earned a shutout against the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sept. 3. Coundoul, who has made six appearances for his country, was called up by the squad for its qualifying match on Sunday, Oct. 9 against Mauritius. Senegal has already clinched the top spot in Group E.
