HARRISON, N.J. – If the New York Red Bulls are to continue picking up victories in the coming weeks, they will have to do so without their deadliest attacking weapon.

Thierry Henry may be out for as much as a month after sustaining a hamstring injury in the first half of the Red Bulls’ 1-0 win over the New England Revolution at Red Bull Arena on Saturday night.

“It’s quite a big hamstring [injury], huge one,” Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe told reporters during his postgame press conference. “Normally you say three to four weeks.”

Henry, who scored the winner in the game in the seventh minute, picked up the injury without contact in the 23rd. He fell to the ground as he tried to make a run on a Red Bulls counterattack, and needed assistance walking off the field when being subbed off two minutes later.

An update on the French Designated Player’s status is expected Tuesday, according to a team spokesman.

Regardless of the exact timeframe for his recovery, Henry looks set to miss the next several weeks, leaving the Red Bulls without forward who has played a part in most of the goals scored this season.

“The way he has started as a goalscorer and [with] assists, it’s a huge loss for us,” said Backe, “both on and off the pitch.”
