It was another solid outing for the Red Bulls Academy sides this past weekend, as they combined for an overall record of 3-0-3 during games played.
The ’99 pre-Academy Red Bulls kicked off the second half of the season in shutout fashion, piecing together a solid 1-0 outing against the Player Development Academy Saturday afternoon. After a first half of scoreless play, the Red Bulls tallied their lone goal when Zach Ryan threaded a pass through into the path of Brandon Haughton, who placed a shot on frame and tucked it into the netting.
It was a come-from-behind win that highlighted the U-14 side’s weekend to open up the spring season when they rallied back from a 1-0 deficit against PDA with two goals in the second half to claim a 2-1 win.
The U-15 Red Bulls opened up their spring season away against PDA, finishing the day off locked in a 1-1 tie. Jerel Blades was the lone New York scorer on the day, taking a soft pass over the PDA defense from Kyle Zajec and placing it into the netting for the early go-ahead goal. The Red Bulls maintained the lead for most of the match, before PDA picked up the equalizer late in the second half to close things out with a draw.
In U-16 action, the Red Bulls posted a shutout victory over Albertson in Long Island Saturday, winning by the final of 2-0. New York took the early lead when Dante Perez converted a penalty kick late in the half, before Derrick Etienne scored right out of the gate when players returned from the break to lead the Red Bulls to victory. Alek Gogic received the clean sheet in goal, as New York maintained its spot atop the Northeast division of the USDA League.
Closing things out for the Academy sides this weekend, the U-18 squad picked up a point after a 1-1 draw against Albertson Saturday afternoon. Defense was the name of the game for both teams for a majority of the match, as each side played conservatively on offense with the hopes of capitalizing on the slightest mistake.
Albertson was the first to land one on the score sheet, when a 25-yard blast found the upper 90 of New York’s goal on a swift counter attack in the 30th minute. New York answered quickly in the 43rd minute, when Alex Muyl registered his 12th of the season off a header to level the score. In the second half, both teams through conservative play out the window as they each pushed for the game-winner, but no more goals were to be found as the match ended in a draw for the unbeaten Red Bulls.
