Academy Update: No Losses for Academy Sides in This Past Weekend's Play

“Undefeated” remains the name of the game for the 99 pre-Academy Red Bulls after they recorded a convincing win over Met Oval and a draw against Gottschee this past weekend.


In the first match against Met Oval, Zach Ryan was joined by Anes Mrkulic, Alex Clarke, Valentino Ambrosio, each scoring one or more goals on the day. In the following match against Gottschee, the Red Bulls scored first on a Brandon Haughton tally, but saw his goal canceled out moments later as Gottschee leveled the score. New York continued to create chances throughout the match, but was unable to crack the tie, salvaging a point in a 1-1 draw.


The New York Red Bulls’ U-14 side swept weekend matches against Met Oval and Gottschee thanks to high-flying offensive and rock-solid defensive efforts. New York exchanged goals early on Saturday afternoon against Met Oval for a 1-1 start, but wound up closing out the first half with a 6-1 lead. They’d later allow one more, but added two on top to close out with an 8-2 victory.


On Sunday, the U-14s faced Gottschee, who holds down second place in the standings behind the Red Bulls. New York came out strong yet again and maintained that consistency over the course of the match to shut out the opposition and secure a 6-0 win. They currently hold an impressive 21-1-1 record on the season.


The U-15 side came away with four points this weekend from a double-header against Met Oval and Gottschee. In the first match, New York defeated Met Oval 3-0 as Breno Lustosa led the way with a brace. Later in the afternoon, the Red Bulls were forced to leave the pitch with only a point after five shots hit the crossbar and an impressive outing for the Gottschee goalkeeper shut down additional chances.


In U-16 action, the Red Bulls defeated Met Oval 5-0 Sunday night as Wes Wade scored four goals and Derrick Etienne added the final along with an assist for the shutout victory. Brandon Tetro had two assists on the day as well, while Gianni Carillo and Nick Giordano combined for the clean sheet.


A 7-0 win over Met Oval keeps the U-17 Red Bulls undefeated on the season thanks to goals from six different players and a solid outing from the first team’s Amando Moreno.


Kerlins Georges opened up the scoring in the eighth minute to give the Red Bulls an early 1-0 lead, which quickly amounted to 5-0 advantage by halftime. Moreno, who scored the third goal of the match in the 20th minute, also tagged on three assists, while Alex Muyl scored his 13th of the season on a 35th minute penalty kick. Arun Basuljevic rounded out the scoring in the 84th minute when his free kick found the back of the net. Goalkeeper Joe Ohaus earned the clean sheet in goal.
