ABOUT THE MATCH

The Red Bulls are one of the hottest teams in MLS, winning their third consecutive match with a 1-0 road win against the Columbus Crew last Saturday. Last week’s MLS Player of the Week Tim Cahill bagged the game-winner in the 80th minute and goalkeeper Luis Robles saved a penalty kick as New York moved into a four-way first place tie in the Eastern Conference with Montreal, Sporting Kansas City and the Houston Dynamo.

New York will host the Impact on Wednesday. Montreal got out to a 2-0 lead against the San Jose Earthquakes last Saturday with a pair of Justin Mapp goals. However, Adam Jahn and Sam Cronin responded for the hosts and the Impact left Buck Shaw Stadium with a 2-2 tie. The second-year MLS team has 17 points off a 5-1-2 record and its only loss in league play was a 2-0 defeat at Sporting Kansas City. This is the second of three meetings between the Red Bulls and Impact. On March 23, a Marco Di Vaio goal was enough for Montreal to win 1-0 at Olympic Stadium. Last season, the Red Bulls earned a 2-1-0 record against the Impact. New York took the first two encounters, including a 5-2 home win on March 31 behind a Thierry Henry hat trick in the only match the teams have played at Red Bull Arena.
