ABOUT THE MATCH

New York (7-4-3, 24 pts.) enters the second match of a three-game homestand with a three-point lead in the Eastern Conference over second place Sporting Kansas City. The Red Bulls are 5-0-1 in their last six matches, most recently defeating the two-time defending MLS Cup Champion LA Galaxy, 1-0, last Sunday at Red Bull Arena in front of a sold out crowd of 25,219. Midfielder Tim Cahill tallied the game winner in second half stoppage time to give the Red Bulls the three points.

The Red Bulls will host a Columbus Crew side on Sunday that snapped a two-game losing streak when it beat Toronto FC, 1-0, at BMO Field behind a Dominic Oduro strike. With the result, Columbus improved to sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 15 points and a 4-4-3 record.

This will be the second of three regular season meetings between the Red Bulls and Crew. New York beat Columbus, 1-0, on May 4 at Crew Stadium on the back of a Cahill 80th minute goal and a Luis Robles penalty kick stop. The Red Bulls swept the season series with the Crew for the first time in club history in 2012, going 2-0-0 in regular season play. The Red Bulls, who are currently unbeaten in their last five against their Eastern Conference rival (3-0-2), are 25-23-7 all-time and 14-9-4 at home. The Red Bulls have another match in Columbus on Aug. 10.
