AT&T Goal of the Week: Week 27
You probably thought it when it went in, but here's your confirmation: Lloyd Sam's tally against D.C. United is nominated for MLSsoccer.com's Goal of the Week.
Sam's goal came in the eighth minute of Saturday's 2-1 win and opened up the scoring for both sides.
The play opened up with a Bradley Wright-Phillips slide tackle that freed up the ball and allowed for a Red Bulls rush into the attacking third. After charging into the 18-yard box, Wright-Phillips dished it off to Cahill at the top of the penalty area for what looked to be a solid set up for a shot. But Cahill, with eyes on the defender, slipped it to Sam before taking a hard knock to the leg/ankle and hitting the grass. Sam created room, slipped inside, then out, before working back inside and lobbing a chip toward the far post that sailed over Hamid's out-stretched hand, dinged off the post, and rolled across the line.
What a goal.
