August 18th, 1998 - Tim Howard Makes Metros Debut

On August 18th, 1998, 19-year-old North Brunswick, New Jersey native Tim Howard made his debut for the MetroStars vs. the Colorado Rapids at Giants Stadium. Howard made five saves as the MetroStars downed the Rapids 4-1. 


After the match, MetroStars coach Alfonso Mindelo said of Howard:


"He stepped up in a pressure situation and came up huge. I think you saw the potential this man has."

Howard went on to make 88 league appearances for the MetroStars before his move to Manchetser United in 2003, and Everton in 2007.
