The New York Red Bulls II are set to host an invitational tryout for 60 select candidates at the Red Bulls Training Facility in Hanover, N.J., on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 12 p.m. EST. The tryout is not open to the public.
More than 600 submissions were accepted last week, and sorted through by members of the Red Bulls technical staff. Entries included the players’ soccer resumes and a video link to their highlight reel.
“We’ve found some solid players through the application process,” said Red Bulls Technical Director Ricardo Campos. “We look forward to having these local players out to our facility, and having some good competition on Saturday.”
Four members of the Red Bulls technical staff will oversee the tryout. Representing the club will be Campos, Player Development Coordinator John Wolyniec, Academy goalkeeping coach Vadim Kirillov, and Ibrahim Sekagya, who joined the Red Bulls staff after announcing his retirement earlier this month.
"There was real quality in the application pool and we are excited to see the players," said Red Bulls Player Development Coordinator John Wolyniec. "We're looking to see if we can find any players with the talent and potential to be developed into an MLS level player. We're not looking for a particular type of player, we're looking too see what we can find and then we'll evaluate if that fits into the plans for this club."
The event will feature head-to-head games closed to the public. The attending technical staff will watch the games and work together to identify top talent, with the possibility of any standout performers being invited to trial with NYRB II during preseason.
The New York Red Bulls II kick off their inaugural USL season on Saturday, March 28 against the Rochester Rhinos at 2 p.m. EST at Red Bull Arena.
