TAMPA, FLA. (April 7, 2015) – New York Red Bulls defender Shawn McLaws has been named to the United Soccer League team of the week after scoring in the New York Red Bulls II 4-1 win over Toronto FC II.

McLaws, along with several other MLS players, were loaned down to the USL side for the Red Bulls bye week. McLaws made the start at right back and scored the second goal of the afternoon, receiving a pass on the wing from fellow 2015 MLS SuperDraft pick Manolo Sanchez, blowing by a Toronto defender and slipping a shot past TFC II ‘keeper Alex Bono.

McLaws and the defense were superb in the win, with the only goal coming as an own-goal after a partially blocked shot redirected past another MLS loanee, Kyle Reynish.

This is the second-straight week a NYRB II player has been named to the USL team of the week. Colin Heffron earned the nod last week after playing both right back and center back in the 0-0 draw with Rochester Rhinos.

New York Red Bulls II are back in action this Sunday, April 12, when they host Wilmington Hammerheads FC at 4 p.m. at Red Bull Arena. Click here to purchase tickets.
