New York Red Bulls II face its third consecutive undefeated opponent when NYRB II re-match Rochester Rhinos in the Rhinos’ home opener. This is the second of three meetings in 2015 against Rochester. In the first fixture at Red Bull Arena, the New York sides played out a scoreless draw in the first match in Red Bulls II history.

New York Red Bulls II

  • Record: 1-2-2, 5 points; seventh place in Eastern Conference
  • Leading Goal Scorer: Anatole Abang (2)
  • Assist Leader: Sean Davis (2)
  • Saves Leader: Santiago Castano (14)

Red Bulls II plays its third match in eight days this weekend. NYRB II played its last match on Wednesday night against Richmond Kickers. The unbeaten Kickers scored on a penalty kick in the second half to gain the advantage and went on to shutout Red Bulls II at Red Bull Arena, 1-0.

Rochester Rhinos

  • Record: 3-0-2, 11 points; second place in Eastern Conference
  • Leading Goal Scorer: Alex Dixon/Christian Volesky (2)
  • Assist Leader: Thomas Onua Obasi/Christian Silva (1)
  • Saves Leader: Brandon Miller (7)

Richmond opens their home slate after playing five on the road to open the season. Last weekend the Rhinos earned a 1-0 victory over Louisville City FC to remain unbeaten through five road games to open their 20th season. Alex Dixon and Christian Volesky each have two goals for Rochester, and the team has conceded just two goals through five matches.

In the first meeting this season, the sides played to a 0-0 draw on opening day at Red Bull Arena. NYRB II showed promise in that first match, battling back after a slow start and taking the play to Rochester in the second half. In their lone road match this season, New York went to Charleston and became the first team to earn a point off of the Battery this season at the always daunting Blackbaud Arena. NYRB II coach John Wolyniec will lead a side mixed with MLS loanees, USL players and current Red Bulls Academy standouts into Sahlen’s Stadium looking for a similar result.
