Red Bull U-18's (5) vs. FC Delco (0)
Saturday May 9, 2015 at Red Bull Training Facility (Hanover, NJ)

Red Bulls U-18s eased to a 5-0 win over FC Delco this past Saturday.  With superb goaltending combined with Walter Caderon’s hat-trick, the Red Bulls were able to record their second-straight shutout victory.  Tomas Lapnas’s return to the net for the Red Bulls put them in a good position defensively, while the offense, propelled by Calderon, was able to take care of the rest.

The Red Bulls were not able to get on the board until the 31st minute despite ample chances early in the match.  In the 13th minute, a corner kick lead to a Kyle Zajec shot from 25 yards out that sailed slightly wide of the post.  With constant pressure, Calderon was able to put away his first goal of three on the day with a header off a corner kick from Marcello Borges.

The lead was doubled shortly after from another corner kick.  Calderon didn’t score this one, but his flick-on to teammate Conrad Nowowiejski set up the second goal of the day.  After the half-time break, the Red Bulls didn’t hesitate to add onto the lead.  In the 47th minute, Calderon shot one from 30 yards out slightly under the crossbar and into the back of the net.

The hat-trick was completed quickly after when Nowowiejski sent a pass into the penalty box for Calderon to finish.  The final goal came from Sam Carter’s header off Borges’s corner kick in the 65th minute.

Red Bull U-16's (3) vs. FC Delco (1)
Saturday May 9, 2015 at Red Bull Training Facility (Hanover, NJ)

The Red Bulls U-16 continued a hot streak as they recorded their third-straight win, and their seventh in the team’s previous eight games.

The 23rd minute marked the beginning of the pressure Red Bulls were exerting when Giuseppe Margiottiello hit the cross bar in the 23rd minute after a nice set of passing with JP Marin.  The scoring eventually began in the 35th minute with a solo effort from Zach Ryan.  Four minutes later the sound of the crossbar rang again from a shot by Jared Gibley.

“The Delco game wasn't the statement result we were looking for, but we dominated possession, put three in, and would have put in more but for the cross bar,” said Ryan.  “We kept the ball in our opponents half nearly the entire game, but had moments where we were a bit lethargic.  Ultimately, it was a good result to build on as we prepare for the playoffs.”

Prior to the halftime whistle, while the Red Bulls decided to push toward the offensive side, a counter-attack exposed the team and FC Delco evened the game at one a piece.

Controlling the possession in the second half lead to the somewhat surprising combination of center defender Richard Wolf and Kyle Perno leading to the team’s second goal.  Perno kept the ball in off of a corner kick and sent in a cross leading to Wolf’s finish.

The dagger was placed in the 75th minute when Gilbey’s through ball was finished by Brian Saramago.

On Saturday May 16th, the Red Bulls host Seacost United at Red Bull Training Facility (12pm kick-off).  On Sunday, the team will play on the road versus DC United at Evergreen Sports Complex (3:30pm kick-off).  The Red Bulls will enter Saturday with a 18-1-2 record with 56 points.

Alex Quezada put the Red Bulls on the board in the 19th minute from a well-placed shot taken outside the penalty box.  Quezada remained in the fire, assisting Aziel Jackson just three minutes later for the Red Bulls’ second goal of the game.  Then it was Jackson’s turn to gain the entire spotlight, scoring a penalty kick in the 32nd minute.

The hat-trick was completed in the 61st minute when a Jordan May pass found Jackson and the rest was history.  Following Jackson’s hat-trick was FC Delco’s second goal of the game.
