Colombia, Peru to Play International Friendly at Red Bull Arena

HARRISON, N.J. - Red Bull Arena will host a second International Friendly in September, as the national teams from Colombia and Peru will meet on Tuesday, September 8 at 8 p.m.


Colombia, ranked fourth in the current FIFA World rankings, will meet Peru, a semifinalist from the 2015 Copa America, at Red Bull Arena days after the stadium hosts Brazil-Costa Rica on September 5.


New York Red Bulls partners and ticket holders will have an exclusive presale window beginning Thursday August 20, at noon. Tickets will go on-sale to the general public on Friday August 21 at 10 a.m. Tickets are available by visiting Ticketmaster.com as well as calling the TicketMaster Hotline at 1-800-653-8000.


The matchup features two nations that advanced to the knockout stage of the recent 2015 Copa America, with Colombia falling to Argentina on penalties in the quarterfinals, and Peru reaching the tournament's semifinals before losing to Chile. The two met in a group stage game in that tournament, playing to a 0-0 draw.


Colombia returns to Red Bull Arena for the second straight year, and fifth time since the arena opened in 2010. The team played two matches at Red Bull Arena last fall against Ecuador and Canada. The Colombian team boasts some of the brightest young stars in the world, such as Real Madrid's James Rodriguez, along with Radamel Falcao and Juan Guillermo Cuadrado, who both play for Chelsea. The team is led by Argentine coach Jose Pekerman. In addition to the success at this summer's Copa America, Colombia advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.


Peru, managed by Ricardo Gareca, advanced to the knockout stage of the Copa America by way of a 2-1 win over Venezuela and the tie with Colombia in group play. Peru then defeated Bolivia in the quarterfinals, 3-1, on the strength of a hat trick from Paolo Guerrero. Guerrero scored again, along with Andre Carrillo, to capture third place in the tournament with a 2-0 win over Paraguay.
