VAUGHAN, Ontario (August 22, 2015) – New York Red Bulls II took to the road and defeated Toronto FC II, 2-0. Stefano Bonomo scored his second goal in two games in the 47th minute and Speedy Williams snatched his first professional goal in the 77th to solidify the victory.

The win improves Red Bulls II to 10-8-6 and moves the team into a three-way tie for third place in the Eastern Conference on 36 points.

Both teams began the match applying pressure, resulting in minimal space in the midfield. Toronto FC II began finding success on the counter-attack, and forced Santiago Castano to makes some vital saves early. The goalkeeper shut down a one-on-opportunity for Toronto when he charged out and stood tall to prevent the goal. Ten minutes later, TFC II’s Mo Babouli fired a bullet on net and again Castano was there to make a diving save.

Sean Davis nearly put New York ahead on a free kick in the 24th minute when he bent his shot over the wall, but the attempt went just wide and out for a goal kick. Marius Obekop created the best NYRB II chance of the first half when his cross nearly connected with Bonomo, but the Toronto goalkeeper was there to break up the chance at the last second.

New York broke the deadlock early in the second half when halftime substitute Bolu Akinyode received a pass on the left side of the penalty box. He spotted Bonomo in the box and delivered a cross directly onto the forehead of the forward, who nodded home from close range to pull ahead in the 47th minute.

Daniel Bedoya, who checked into the match in the second half, nearly doubled New York’s lead in the 75th minute when he curled a right footed shot towards goal. The goalkeeper sprawled to his left and although he was unable to get a touch, the ball bounced on the wrong side of the back post and out.

Moments later, NYRB II would take full control. Following a foul about 30-yards from Toronto’s net, Bonomo instinctively played a quick free kick forward to Williams, who unloaded from just outside of the penalty area. The ball took a slight deflection and flew into the back of the net to ice the match.

In the 80th minute, Toronto’s Adam Bouchard was issued his second yellow card of the match and was sent off. TFC II was unable to score and New York claimed its fifth road win of the season.

New York Red Bulls II return home to Red Bull Arena for its next match on Saturday, Aug. 29 at 5 p.m. EDT against Wilmington Hammerheads FC (WATCH: Live stream available on NewYorkRedBulls.com/Live; TICKETS).
