BY THE NUMBERS: A numerical guide to Portland Timbers vs. New York Red Bulls

The New York Red Bulls (13-8-6) will travel to Providence Park on Sunday, Sept. 20 for their first and only match against the Portland Timbers (11-9-8) this season. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. EDT, with coverage beginning on ESPN at 5 p.m. EDT. The Red Bulls look to clinch a playoff spot, move back into first place in the Eastern Conference and close in on the Supporters’ Shield after Wednesday’s loss to the New England Revolution. The Timbers look to hold on to their playoff spot with their first game since Sept. 9.

Here are some numbers to know ahead of Sunday’s matchup:

2: Sunday will be only the second time this season the Red Bulls will play without Dax McCarty, who will face suspension for yellow card accumulation. The captain’s first missed game was a 2-1 away loss to Columbus on July 4.

3: The Red Bulls have won all three MLS games they’ve played on Sundays following Wednesday games. The last of these was their 3-0 win against D.C. United following a Wednesday loss to the Chicago Fire.

6: There have been six goals scored in each of the two matchups between these teams at Providence Park, with both games ending in 3-3 draws. The Red Bulls’ overall record against the Timbers is 2-1-2.

15: Red Bulls forward Bradley Wright-Phillips, the team’s leading scorer, seeks to net his 15th goal of the season. He scored one goal in his last and only appearance against Portland. The Timbers’ highest scorer is Fanendo Adi, who has 10 goals in 27 games.

100: Goalkeeper Luis Robles is set to make his 100th consecutive start for the Red Bulls, the second-highest streak in league history, behind Kevin Hartman’s record of 112. Robles boasts 47 wins and 27 shutouts during that time.

2,887: Portland’s stadium is 2,887 miles away from Red Bull Arena. This is the second longest distance the Red Bulls must travel for MLS games, after the 2,985-mile trip to Vancouver.
