HARRISON, N.J. (September 30, 2015) – On Saturday Sept. 26, all age groups of the Red Bulls Academy, with the exception of the U-13s, were in action in what was another unbeaten weekend for the Academy. The Red Bulls U-18, U-16 and U-14 age groups hit the road and took on FC Delco in Pennsylvania, while the U-12s welcomed Oakwood SC to the Red Bulls Training Facility.

New York Red Bulls U-18 (0) vs. FC Delco (0)

CONSHOHOCKEN, PA (September 26, 2015) – Both the New York Red Bulls U-18s and FC Delco emerged with a point from a goalless draw at the Proving Grounds, 0-0.

In the first half, Noah Powder nearly opened the scoring when a nice combination play put him through, but his shot went wide of the goal. Next, Mason Toye went close, but his header from Jared Gilbey’s cross also went wide of the target.

The Red Bulls midfield would dominate play in the second half and had long spells of possession in Delco’s half, but the struggles to find the net continued. Pierre Reedy almost broke the deadlock, getting on the end of a low-driven cross from Powder, only to see the Delco goalkeeper make the close range save to deny the opportunity.

Mason Deeds and Kyle Perno were both solid in defense and denied FC Delco’s counter-attacking play, while goalkeeper Sam Ilin was called upon in the second half to parry a diving header in the late stages of the game to preserve his second shutout in two games.

Frustrating not to have found the breakthrough goal even though I felt we deserved one, but it’s difficult to play teams with such a defensive agenda,” Callum Johnson said.

CONSHOHOCKEN, PA (September 26, 2015) – The New York Red Bulls U-16s played out a scoreless draw last weekend against FC Delco, 0-0.

The Red Bull U-16s outshot Delco 12-0, but had to settle for a goalless draw. New York was unable to finish its chances against their defensive minded opponents.

New York Red Bulls U-14 (6) vs. FC Delco (1)

CONSHOHOCKEN, PA (September 26, 2015) – The New York Red Bulls U-14s got off to a fast start and opened the scoring 26 seconds into the match. Kejiel Watt scored his first of the game when he volleyed home from six-yards out after receiving a cross from Man of the Match Scotty Taylor.

Despite the early goal, the Red Bulls could not build on their lead in the first half as FC Delco defended deep. The second half saw the New York start as they did in the first half. Within a span of 90 seconds, the Red Bulls made the score 3-0. In the 41st minute, Taylor scored his first of the game after receiving a pass from substitute Dylan Sullivan. Watt then scored his second of the game and team leading 9th goal of the season in the 42nd minute. Samory Powder delivered a cross in behind the Delco back line which Watt ran onto and headed into the corner of the goal from 12-yards out.

“At half-time we were not happy that we did not build on our dominance in possession,” Scotty Taylor said. “Dylan came into the game and had a great impact immediately. Our front line was able to get behind their back line more in the second half and that is one thing we wanted to improve on.”

Taylor then doubled his tally in the 62nd minute with the goal of the game. A neat interchange of passes from Amadeo Chopru-tate and Sullivan at the top of the penalty box put Taylor in behind the Delco back line and he placed his shot into the lower left corner of the goal.

Against the run of play, FC Delco pulled a goal back in the 65th minute, but the U-14’s responded quickly as Taylor completed the hat-trick in the 68th minute thanks to another assist from Sullivan. The scoring was completed in the 74th minute when defender Samory Powder, for the second consecutive week, blasted a shot into the upper corner from 30-yards out past the helpless FC Delco goalkeeper.

Defender Sean Ryan filled in as a goalkeeper for the game as the U-14s were missing three regular goalkeepers: Alex Bobocea (U.S. U-14 National Team Camp), Matt Goodman (called up to Red Bulls U-16) and Liam Bertrand (injury).
