Red Bulls U: October 1 | Etienne's stunner leads the way as Academy products hit stride early in the season

The following is a list of Academy products with notable performances in the past few weeks of the college soccer season. No. 9 Akron: Adam Najem* (MID) – On Sept. 16, Najem earned one goal and an assist in a 3-3 draw against Ohio State. The following week, the midfielder faced Wake Forest and Academy products Kevin Politz and Steven Echevarria. Najem recorded another assist, but the Zips fell to Wake Forest, 2-1. The junior has five goals and three assists this season.


Bucknell: Chris Thorsheim* (DEF/MID) – Scored Bucknell’s lone-goal on Sept. 27 vs. Boston University, a 1-1 draw. On Wednesday, Thorsheim curled in a free kick goal against Fairleigh Dickinson, his fourth goal of the season, in a 2-2 draw. The senior has four goals and three assists this season.


No. 16 Georgetown: Brandon Allen* (FWD), Alex Muyl (FWD), Arun Basuljevic (MID/FWD), Christopher Lema (MID), Ethan Lochner (FWD), Kyle Zajec (MID) – On Sept. 17, Basuljevic and Muyl both scored in a 2-2 draw vs. VCU. The following match, MAC Hermann Watchlist’s Allen scored a goal in the Hoyas’ 3-1 win against West Virginia. On Sept. 23, Georgetown took on Academy product Mael Corboz and No. 11 Maryland. Both Basuljevic and Muyl recorded one goal and one assist, while Allen also racked up an assist en route to a 2-1 win. In Georgetown’s last match, the Hoyas opened up BIG EAST play against Providence, a 1-0 victory. Muyl and Allen both assisted the game-winning goal. Lema started in all four matches.


Holy Cross: Diego Ceron (DEF) – On Sept. 16, Ceron recorded an assist in a 3-1 win against Quinnipiac. Started and helped maintain a clean sheet in a 1-0 win against Lehigh.


Iona: Oscar Gonzalez (MID) – On Sept. 16, Gonzalez assisted the opening goal of the match en route to a 3-0 win vs. Delaware. Against Yale on Sept. 23, the midfielder provided the game-tying assist in a 2-1 win for Iona. Gonzalez recorded his third assist in four matches in a big win for Iona against Niagara, 6-1.


Marist: Cameron Harr (FWD) – The freshman scored the game-tying goal for Marist in the 80th minute to send the match into overtime, a 2-1 loss to Stony Brook. Harr scored in the 89th minute against Rider, a 2-1 win. The following match, the forward opened the scoring against Canisius. In the 89th minute, Harr tallied the game-winning goal to clinch another victory for Marist, 3-2. The goal was his sixth of the season.


No. 13 Maryland: Mael Corboz (MID) – Corboz faced off against four of Georgetown’s six Red Bulls Academy products on Sept. 23, a 2-1 loss for Maryland. The following match, the midfielder earned the game-winning goal and one assist against Wisconsin.


Michigan: Evan Louro (GK), Billy Stevens (DEF), Marcello Borges (DEF/MID) – Louro made three saves while Stevens played the full 90 minutes against Northwestern, a 3-0 win. In the following match, all three Academy products started against Oakland in a 4-1 win. Stevens provided the game-winning assist in the 42nd minute. On Sept. 27, the Wolverines took on No. 21 Penn State and won 2-0. Louro made five saves in the shutout, while Stevens played the full 90 minutes. Borges played 37 minutes coming off of the bench.


Rutgers: Erik Sa (MID), Brandon Tetro (DEF/MID), Dante Perez (MID/FWD) – On Sept. 20, Sa scored in the 87th minute in an upset victory for the Scarlet Knights against No. 22 Indiana, 4-1. Tetro also made a substitute appearance in the win. Sa scored his second goal of the season and recorded one assist in a big win on Sept. 29 against Loyola (MD), 8-0. Tetro and Perez both made appearances off of the bench in the win.


Siena: Alex Tejera (FWD) – The forward scored his first goal of the season against Manhattan in the MAAC opener, 2-0. He also started the next match against Niagara, a 2-0 win. He took three shots, two of which were on goal. Tejera has started and played in eight matches this season and has totaled one goal and two assists.


Tulsa: Juan Sebastian Sanchez (FWD) – The Academy product and former Red Bulls II forward grabbed a brace in a two-goal comeback against UMKC, a 3-2 win. Sanchez tied the match in the 82nd minute and scored the game-winner in the 93rd minute. The freshman forward has four goals and two assists in nine appearances this season.


Villanova: Sean Sheridan (MID) – On Sept. 30, Sheridan scored the game-winning goal and provided an assist in a 2-0 win versus La Salle. The senior has three goals and one assist this season.


No. 11 Virginia: Derrick Etienne (MID), Scott Thomsen (DEF), Wesley Wade (FWD), Malcolm Dixon (DEF), Nate Odusote (DEF) – On Sept. 21, Etienne scored on an impressive individual effort in the 84th minute against VCU, a 1-0 win for Virginia. The Cavaliers lost their first match last week at Notre Dame, 3-1.


No. 6 Wake Forest: Kevin Politz (DEF), Steven Echevarria (MID) – Both Academy products played a role in the Demon Deacons’ recent positive form. Both played in a 3-1 win against Syracuse, a 2-1 win against fellow Academy product and MAC Hermann Watchlist player Adam Najem, and most recently a 1-1 draw against Clemson.
