The New York Red Bulls return home on Sunday looking to extend their eight-game unbeaten streak against long-time rival New England Revolution as part of MLS Heineken Rivalry Week. Kickoff at Red Bull Arena is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET, with coverage on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and Red Bulls Radio.
Red Bulls Radio gets underway at 1:30 p.m. with Countdown to Kickoff, hosted by Matt Harmon. Harmon will call the game in English with former Red Bull and MetroStar Steve Jolley, while Ernesto Motta provides Spanish play-by-play beginning at kickoff.
New York extended the unbeaten streak with a 2-2 draw at D.C. United last Sunday, the fourth-consecutive 2-2 road draw for the club. The Red Bulls eight-game run is the longest active unbeaten streak in MLS, and is tied for the third-longest streak in MLS this season. New York has earned points in 13 of the last 15 league games (7-2-6).
Bradley Wright-Phillips opened the scoring in D.C., putting himself in good position and using his right foot to redirect a cross from Mike Grella in mid-air. It was the 60th of BWP’s MLS career, and his 15th of season, making him just the fourth player in league history to record 15 or more goals in three consecutive seasons.
Felipe scored the Red Bulls’ second goal, tying his MLS career high with his fifth of the season. Felipe’s low strike from just inside the 18-yard box was his first goal from inside the penalty area this season. His four goals from outside of 18 yards are tied for the most in MLS this year.
New York’s nine home wins this season are the most in the Eastern Conference, and tied for the most in MLS. Red Bull Arena remains one of the toughest places to play in MLS, as the Red Bulls have the most home wins (53) and points (174) at home since the start of the 2012 season.
New England enters at 6-11-9, coming off of a scoreless draw in San Jose on Wednesday night and a 2-0 home loss to Columbus last weekend. The Revs won the first matchup of the season, 1-0 on April 1 at Gillette Stadium.
After Sunday, the Red Bulls travel to Vancouver next weekend for the final out-of-conference match of the season. New York meets Whitecaps FC on Saturday, September 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, with coverage on MSG, MSG GO and Red Bulls Radio on TuneIn.
