Five Things Mike Grella Said at Final Media Day

Mike Grella said that the team has accomplished so much over the last two years, but is disappointed they won't be hoisting the MLS Cup on December 10.

Grella spoke to members of the media on Thursday, at the Red Bulls' end-of-year media availability. Here's what the midfielder had to say:

  • The Red Bulls were one of the better teams heading into the playoffs, but they "fell short" in the two games they played this season against Montreal in the playoffs.
  • Grella said New York "controlled both legs" against Montreal, "but they put their chances away and we didn't."
  • "It's huge for the club," Grella said of the upcoming CONCACAF games in February against Vancouver Whitecaps. "It's another chance to make history for the club. It's another chance to push this club forward," he said.
  • Grella said he didn't know if it was a good thing or a bad thing that the team had a 20-win unbeaten streak heading into the playoffs.
  • "Everything hinges on whether you win the MLS Cup or not," Grella said. "We have to get it right in the playoffs."
