NYRB II’s Top Five Moments: USL Cup Champions

The crowning moment of the 2016 season proved to be the USL Cup Final against the Swope Park Rangers.

On Oct. 23, NYRB II faced Swope Park for the first time in their history. The Rangers had cruised to the cup final, winning by margins of 3-0, 2-1, and 3-0.

In true fashion, Derrick Etienne Jr. struck first. Etienne Jr. scored a bending shot from just outside of the box in the 18th minute, beating the keeper to the right corner of the net.

The goal king struck soon after, as Brandon Allen scored a close two-touch sitter to make the score 2-0 before the half.

The pressure returned in the 74th minute when Swope Park snuck in a free kick to come within one goal of a tie game.

A mad scramble in the box during the 85th minute led to Brandon Allen scoring his second goal of the game off of a one-touch opportunity.

Three minutes later in the 88th, Allen collected his hat trick by scoring again from the same spot off of the same left foot to bring the score to 4-1.

Vincent Bezecourt capped the game off in the 92nd minute, receiving a beautiful ball in the box from Derrick Etienne Jr. and one-touching it into the back of the net.

Red Bulls II had become champions of the USL, bringing home the first postseason trophy to Red Bull Arena and doing so in record-breaking fashion.
