New York sits in a three-way tie for third place in the Eastern Conference with Philadelphia and New England. They’re coming off a 5-2 loss to Hudson River rivals NYCFC II on May 9. Midfielder Adri Mehmeti scored his first career professional goal and became the fourth-youngest goal scorer in club history. Defender Matthew Dos Santos scored his second goal of the season.
New England are unbeaten in their last three matches and were last in action on May 4 when they earned two points on the road against Toronto FC II. After regulation, the two sides were level 3-3 and advanced to a 12-round penalty kick shootout that saw Revolution II come out on top 9:8.
The two sides last faced each other on September 29, 2024, at MSU Soccer Park. New York opened the scoring in the 38th minute when forward Mohammed Sofo intercepted a pass back by a New England defender and slotted a shot into the bottom right corner of the net. New England responded in the 44th minute when forward Liam Butts got on the end of a deflected ball to put it into the back of the net. Red Bulls II found the lead again in the 49th minute courtesy of a Ibrahim Kasule penalty kick. New York sealed the deal in the 56th minute when midfielder Rafael Mosquera whipped in a cross that was deflected toward forward Tanner Rosborough who picked up the ball and smashed it into the back of the net to solidify a 3-1 victory.
Through six all-time MLS NEXT Pro Matchups, Red Bulls II hold the advantage with a record of 3-1-1, including being undefeated at home against Revolution II. Through these matchups, New York has scored double the goals that New England has with a +5-goal differential, giving up only five goals while scoring 10.
