MONTCLAIR, N.J. (August 9, 2023) - New York Red Bulls II (10-6-5, 38 pts.) are set for their first matchup of the season against Toronto FC II (5-11-5 23 pts.) at MSU Soccer Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET and coverage is available on MLS Season Pass with Apple TV.

New York enter today’s match unbeaten in their last three contests, with wins against Cincinnati, Orlando, and a shootout win in New England three days ago. That match against Revolution II included an O’Vonte Mullings equalizer in the 95th minute to send the two sides to a shootout. Red Bulls II won the shootout, 4-3, over eight rounds thanks to three crucial saves from A.J. Marcucci.

Toronto have had their struggles on the road, posting a 1-6-3 in 10 matches away from home this season. This includes their most recent match in Columbus last week, where they fell 4-0 to one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.

The offensive front for New York, other than MLS NEXT Pro player of the month Ibrahim Kasule, deserve their fair share in credit for this unbeaten streak. Goal and assist contributions from O’Vonte Mullings, Frank Ssebufu, and Wiki Carmona have all been greatly important for Red Bulls II during this recent stretch of matches. The attack will look to take advantage of a Toronto team that has allowed 40 goals in 21 matches.

Toronto’s attack will be led by Jesús Batiz, who is tied for 5th in the league in goals with eight goals in 2023. The forward also leads the club in total minutes and has appeared in 20 of the their 21 matches so far this year.

On the other side of the ball, New York’s defensive ability has been one of the most consistent contributors to the club’s success up to this point in the season. Red Bulls II currently sit at 1st in the Eastern Conference and 4th in the league in least goals allowed with 24. In addition, the side has seven clean sheets this year, which is good for third in the league.
