COLUMBUS, OH (August 13, 2023) - New York Red Bulls II (10-7-5, 38 pts.) are set for their second and last matchup of the season against Columbus Crew 2 (12-6-3, 42 pts.), at Historic Crew Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET and coverage is available on MLS Season Pass with Apple TV.

Red Bulls II are looking to bounce back from their last matchup, four days ago, against Toronto FC II. New York held a 1-0 lead for a large majority of the match, but the opposition managed to put two goals on the board in the final ten minutes to seal their comeback victory.

Columbus also had their last match this past Wednesday and had a more favorable result. After a tough battle on the road in Huntsville, Crew 2 managed to take away two points from the shootout following a 1-1 draw in regulation.

Today’s match will be the second time that these two sides have clashed this season, with the first contest coming during the first Matchweek of the season back in March. New York had a 1-0 lead from the 7th minute, all the way until stoppage time, when Crew 2 scored the equalizer in the 94th minute to send the season opener to a shootout. Columbus would win the shootout 3-2 and earn the second point in the standings.

New York’s attack has seen multiple contributors in the past few weeks other than July’s Player of the Month, Ibrahim Kasule. One of those contributors is Amos Shapiro-Thompson, who just scored his first career goal on Wednesday against Toronto. The Massachusetts born midfielder had been battling an injury in previous weeks and was finally able to add one to the scoresheet in 2023.

New York has now maintained their impressive defensive record for most of the MLS NEXT Pro regular season, as they currently sit near the top of many stat categories. Red Bulls II rank 1st in the Eastern Conference and 4th in the entire league in least goals allowed on the season with 26. The club also holds the third most clean sheets in MLS NEXT Pro with seven.

Red Bulls II are sitting at 4th in the Eastern Conference with 38 points in 22 matches played. Right above them are Crew 2 at 3rd in the table with 42 points and a match in hand on New York.
