New York is fifth in the Eastern Conference after a 2-1 win over Columbus Crew 2 on Saturday. Forward Sean Baitinger scored twice in the win, opening the scoring in the sixth minute off a Dennis Nelich assist before doubling his tally in the 24th minute. Baitinger’s brace gives him five goals on the season, second most on the club, while his nine goal contributions rank third. Nelich picked up his sixth assist of the season on the play, second most on the team, while midfielder Benny Rodriguez recorded his fourth assist of the year on the other goal.
Baitinger’s brace made him the fourth youngest in the club, at 17 years and 331 days old.
Nelich is now the second youngest to record two assists in a match at 18 years and 158 days old.
Atlanta is seventh in the Eastern Conference and will look to bounce back from a 1-0 loss to Chattanooga FC this past Saturday.
Friday’s match will be the only regular-season meeting between the two sides this year. New York has won each of the last four matchups against Atlanta.
