New York sits in second in the Eastern Conference and are one of four teams in MLS NEXT Pro to remain unbeaten through the first seven matches of the season. Red Bulls II is coming off a commanding 4-1 victory over Columbus Crew 2 on April 26 at MSU Soccer Park that included an MLS NEXT Pro debut goal from defender Julián Bazán, along with goals from midfielders Nate Worth and Dennis Nelich and forward Roald Mitchell.

Philadelphia is tied for third in the Eastern Conference and have won their last two matches. They were last in action on April 26 at Connecticut United where Union II produced a comeback 2-1 victory courtesy of goals from forwards Eddy Davis III and Stas Korzeniowski.

The two sides faced off against each other on March 22 at MSU Soccer Park. After a scoreless first half, Philadelphia took the lead in the 63rd minute. Three minutes into stoppage time, the Red Bulls equalized courtesy of a goal from substitute midfielder Paul Sokoloff. Ultimately, Union II picked up the two points with a 4-3 penalty shootout win.

Through nine all time matches, New York have posted a 2-4-3 all time regular season record against Philadelphia Union II. However, the Red Bulls have won two of the last three meetings across all competitions, including a 2-1 home victory in the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Eastern Conference Finals. Forward Mijahir Jiménez leads the active roster with two career goals scored against Union II.
