New York sits in second in the Eastern Conference despite suffering a 3-1 loss against Connecticut United FC at MSU Soccer Park on May 24. After falling behind by two goals, captain Nate Worth found winger Dennis Nelich, who layed it off to right back Dennis Gjengaar as the Norwegian cut the lead in half. Ultimately, the visitors scored from the penalty spot in the 90th minute to seal the three points.
Carolina is in 15th place in the Eastern Conference but have gone unbeaten in their last two home matches. They were last in action on May 24 at Chattanooga FC where the visitors suffered a 1-0 defeat.
The two sides will face off against each other for the first time in the 2026 campaign.
Through three all-time matches, New York have posted a 1-1-1 all time regular season record against Carolina. In the last matchup between these two sides on October 19, 2025, the Red Bulls defeated the visitors 5-1 in the MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs Eastern Conference quarterfinals at MSU Soccer Park.
