The New York Red Bulls II (10-3-3, 34 pts) fell 2-1 to Huntsville City FC (6-3-5, 23 pts) at MSU Soccer Park on Sunday night.
New York opened the scoring in the 26th minute. Midfielder Nehuen Benedetti slipped a through ball to midfielder Rafael Mosquera who placed a left footed shot into the bottom right corner of the net.
Huntsville City equalized in the 72nd minute. Midfielder Alan Carleton played a through ball to forward Gunnar Studenhofft who took a touch passed the keeper and slotted a shot into the back of the net.
The visitors gained the lead in the 83rd minute. Midfielder Ethan O’Brien played a pass across the box to Carleston who took a one time shot into the bottom right corner.
Mosquera scored his fifth goal of the season and ninth of his career. The midfielder has tallied four goal contributions in his last four appearances.
Benedetti tallied his sixth assist of the season and is tied with teammate Tanner Rosborough, Chicago Fire FC II’s Claudio Cassano, Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 Jackson Castro, and MNUFC2’s Curt Calov for second-most assists in MLS NEXT Pro this season.
With the assist, Benedetti is tied with Jeremy Rafanello, Jake LaCava, and Janos Loebe for the seventh-most career assists in club history.
Midfielder Steven Sserwadda made his 50th career start.
With the start today, Sserwadda is now tied with Vincent Bezecourt and Juan Gutierrez for seventh-most starts in club history.
