New York Red Bulls II defeated Colorado Rapids 2, 4-3, in a penalty shootout on Saturday night at Sports Illustrated Stadium to claim club’s first MLS NEXT Pro Cup title.
Colorado opened up the scoring in the 34th minute, when defender Stevie Flores played a low-driven cross to the middle of New York’s eighteen-yard box and found the foot of Billo Diop, who’s attempt found the back of the net.
The Rapids found a second goal right before the end of the first half in the first minute of first half stoppage time, when a long throw in by Alex Harris connected with James Cameron, who fired a right-footed shot in the bottom left corner.
Red Bulls II found their first goal of the match in the 65th minute, when defender Curtis Ofori played a cutback in the path of midfielder Nate Worth, who passed the ball to midfielder Rafael Mosquera, who placed the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.
New York tied the match just two minutes later, when midfielder Nehuen Benedetti played a one-time ball with his right foot to forward Roald Mitchell, who took a touch and fired his shot into the bottom left corner.
Colorado went in front once again in the 78th minute, when substitutes Wayne Frederick and Antony Garcia connected, and Garcia’s shot attempt found the bottom left corner of the net.
New York found another equalizer in the 81st minute, when Worth was brought down in Colorado’s eighteen-yard box and Mosquera stepped up and converted his penalty kick attempt to the top right corner.
Mosquera scored his third and fourth goals of the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Cup playoffs and now has 11 goals across all competitions. He scored the most postseason goals in club history by a midfielder with four. Mosquera became the first player to score a brace in an MLS NEXT Pro Cup. The Panama international has now scored three career multi-goal games for New York. He has recorded two of those games during the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro playoffs.
Mosquera was named the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Cup MVP and became the youngest MLS NEXT Pro Cup MVP at 20 years, 168 days old.
Worth tallied his third assist of the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Cup playoffs, and now has the most by a single player in the postseason for MLS NEXT Pro. He has now tallied six assists across all competitions this season and has recorded an assist in three-straight MLS NEXT Pro playoff matches.
Mitchell scored his fifth goal of the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro playoffs, which is the most by a player in a single MLS NEXT Pro postseason. He has now scored nine goals across all competitions this season and has scored a goal in four straight matches.
Benedetti tallied his second assist of the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs and now has tallied nine across all competitions.
Goalkeeper Austin Causey recorded four saves and made the game-clinching save on the last penalty kick of the shootout.
New York finished the season with a 13-1-4 mark at home, which is the best home record across all competitions in a single season in franchise history.
Red Bulls II clinched their first ever MLS NEXT Pro Cup title and earned their second title in franchise history. New York became the second Eastern Conference team to win MLS NEXT Pro Cup and the first since 2022.
Head Coach Michael Bradley posted an 11-4-4 mark in his first season with Red Bulls II across all competitions.
The attendance of 9,095 tonight at Sports Illustrated Stadium is a new record attendance at MLS NEXT Pro Cup.
