MATCH RECAP: New York Red Bulls II Fall 9-2 to Chicago Fire FC II at SeatGeek Stadium on Sunday Afternoon

HARRISON, N.J. (July 27, 2025) - The New York Red Bulls II (11-4-4, 39 pts) fell 9-2 to Chicago Fire FC II (9-5-4, 33 pts) on Sunday afternoon at SeatGeek Stadium.

Chicago opened the scoring in the sixth minute, when forward Jason Shokalook was through on a counterattack and placed a shot into the back of the net.

Fire II added another in the 14th minute. New York Defender Jair Collahuazo committed a handball in the box to give Chicago a penalty kick. Shokalook converted his attempt in the bottom left corner.

Shokalook completed a hat trick in the 20th minute when midfielder Claudio Cassano whipped in a cross into the box into that was headed home by Shokalook.

Chicago found a fourth in the 28th minute when Cassano crossed it into the box that was headed home by defender Jean Diouf.

New York got on the scoresheet in the 34th minute. Forward Roald Mitchell was taken down in the box to draw a penalty kick. Mitchell stepped up and placed his attempt in the bottom left corner.

Chicago responded in the second minute of first half stoppage time. Midfielder Justin Reynold crossed the ball far post to Cassano who tapped it into the back of the net.

Red Bulls II scored a second in the 48th minute. Midfielder Adri Mehmeti slipped a through ball to Mitchell. Mitchell dribbled to the endline and placed a shot top left corner.

Fire II responded one minute later, Shokalook played a cross onto the penalty spot that was placed bottom left corner by Cassano.

Chicago scored a seventh in the 63rd minute. Midfielder Sam Williams crossed a ball into the box to Shokalook who turned on his defender and laced a left footed shot into the top left corner.

Fire II found an eighth goal in the 69th minute. Reynolds played a ball to midfielder Harold Osorio who turned and curled a shot into the bottom right corner.

Chicago scored a ninth in the 90th minute. Midfielder Dean Boltz played a ball through to midfielder Jhoiner Montiel who flicked a shot with the outside of his left foot into the bottom left corner.

Mitchell made his first start since suffering a knee injury on April 14, 2024 against Chicago Fire FC II.

The Montclair, N.J. native scored his first and second goals of the season.

The forward has scored his sixth goal in two matches against Chicago.

Mehmeti tallied his first assist of the season.

Subbing in the 46th minute, midfielder Dylan Sullivan made his 50th career appearance for the club.

Defender Juan Gutierrez made his 59th appearance for the club, passing Dan Metzger for ninth-most appearances in club history.

Gutierrez started his 52nd career match and ties Jared Stroud for sixth-most starts in club history.

With 90 minutes played the Colombia native passed Dan Metzer for eight-most minutes played in club history.
