HARRISON, N.J. (September 21, 2025) - The New York Red Bulls II (16-5-5, 55 pts) fought Inter Miami CF II (6-14-6, 25 pts) to a 1-1 draw and 4-2 penalty kick shootout loss on Sunday night at MSU Soccer Park.
Red Bulls II opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Midfielder Rafael Mosquera whipped in a corner kick that was deflected onto the top of the box. Defender Matthew Dos Santos stepped up to the rebound and laced a one time left footed shot into the top right corner.
Inter Miami CF II leveled the match in the 77th minute. Midfielder Preston Plambeck crossed the ball to the penalty spot that was placed into the bottom left corner by forward Diego Rey.
The match was level after 90 minutes and advanced to a penalty kick shootout. Miami converted all four of their attempts for a 4-2 advantage to earn two points.
Dos Santos scored his fourth goal of the season.
With his fourth career goal, Dos Santos ties Mandela Egbo for second-most goal by a defender in club history.
With 62 minutes played, defender Juan Gutierrez recorded his 5,031 career minute played. He joins Hassan Ndam, Chris Lema, and Evan Louro as the only players in club history to record 5,000 or more minute played.
Goalkeeper Tobias Szewczyk made his first career MLS NEXT Pro start and appearance.
Szewczyk is the second-youngest goalkeeper to appear in a Red Bulls II match at 16 years and 238 days old.
The goalkeeper made six saves on the night, which ties Alan Rutkowski for sixth-most single match saves in club history.
With the draw, New York moves their unbeaten streak to four matches.
Following Sunday’s match, New York will travel to NKU Soccer Stadium for a midweek clash against FC Cincinnati 2 on Wednesday, October 1. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET with coverage available on MLSNEXTPro.com.
