Match Recap: NYRB II Falls to the Charleston Battery, 3-1, at MSU Soccer Park

MONTCLAIR, NJ (August 12) – New York Red Bulls II (3-18-3, 12 points) fell to the Charleston Battery (5-16-4, 19 points) 3-1 on Friday, August 12, at MSU Soccer Park.

Charleston struck first in the 32nd minute, as Augustine Williams converted a penalty kick. They doubled their advantage five minutes after, as Aidan Apodaca collected a loose ball following a long pass from Robbie Crawford and sent a shot into the back of the net.

The visitors increased the margin to three in the 51st minute, as Apodaca converted a pass from Williams.

New York struck in second half stoppage time with Zach Ryan collecting a pass from John Murphy just outside the box, turning and ripping a shot to make the final score 3-1.

The goal for Ryan was his first in USL Championship play this season. Murphy’s assist was his third of the season, moving him into a tie with O’Vonte Mullings for the team lead. He has tallied an assist in back-to-back matches for New York.

In the 84th minute, Hassan Ndam moved into fifth in club history for minutes played (regular and postseason), passing Jared Stroud (5,195).

Following the match, New York will travel to face Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on Saturday, August 20, at Highmark Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET with coverage available on ESPN+.
