MATCH RECAP: Red Bull New York II Defeat Inter Miami CF II, 3-0, at Sports Illustrated Stadium

Red Bull New York II (2-0-0, 6 pts.) defeated Inter Miami CF II (0-1-1, 1 pts.), 3-0, on Sunday night at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

New York opened the scoring in the 12th minute, when midfielder Dennis Nelich played a low-driven left-footed cross into Inter Miami CF II’s six-yard box and found the foot of forward Mijahir Jimenez, who tapped the ball in the back of the net.

RBNY II found their second goal of the match in the 67th minute, when Nelich played a ball across the field that was headed by Jimenez and fell to midfielder Benjamin Rodriguez, who fired a right-footed shot in the back of the net.

New York added a third in the third minute of second half stoppage time, when forward Christian Gallagher drew a penalty kick and stepped up and placed his attempt in the right-hand corner of the net.

Jimenez scored his first MLS NEXT Pro goal of the season and the ninth of his career with Red Bull New York II. 

Nelich tallied his first MLS NEXT Pro assist of the season and also the first assist of his professional career. 

In his first appearance of the season, Rodriguez scored his first career MLS NEXT Pro goal. 

Gallagher scored his first MLS NEXT Pro goal of the season and the first of his professional career. 

Defender Aimar Sanchez and midfielder Makan Sissoko made their first career MLS NEXT Pro appearances and starts.

Midfielders Paul Sokoloff and Deven Cadigan made their first career MLS NEXT Pro starts.

Goalkeeper Tobias Szewczyk recorded his first career MLS NEXT Pro shutout in tonight’s match. 

New York have extended their home unbeaten streak to eight consecutive matches. 

RBNY II have also won their last five matches across all competitions. 

Red Bulls II’s have won the first two matches of their seasn for the first time in club history.

Following Sunday’s match, New York will travel to Belson Stadium to face NYCFC II on Sunday, March 15. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. ET with coverage on MLSNEXTPro.com and OneFootball.
