Red Bull New York II (11-8-4, 38 pts.) defeats Atlanta United 2 (10-8-4, 34 pts.) 2-1 on Friday evening at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground.
In the 41st minute, after midfielder Benny Rodriguez played a ball out wide to winger Andy Rojas, the Costa Rican found an unmarked Christian Gallagher to take the lead away from home.
Three minutes into stoppage time, after Atlanta conceded a penalty, Rojas converted from the spot to double the lead.
Just two minutes after the second half started, the home side were able to cut the deficit in half through a goal from midfielder Enzo Dovlo.
Gallagher scored his fifth goal of the season.
In 14 matches played this season, the forward has registered eight goal contributions.
Rojas registered his third assist of the season.
Rodriguez added his fifth assist of the season.
After scoring from the spot, Rojas found the back of the net for the fourth time this season.
It was the 20-year-old’s first goal in MLS NEXT Pro play since the Red Bulls 2-1 away victory at Toronto FC II on May 8.
Goalkeeper Austin Causey made six saves in the match.
