MATCH RECAP: Red Bull New York II Defeats Philadelphia Union II 2-1 at Subaru Park on Sunday, May 3

Red Bull New York II (6-0-2, 20 pts.) produced a 2-1 comeback victory against Philadelphia Union II (4-3-1, 14 pts.) on Sunday afternoon at Subaru Park.

Six minutes into the second half, Union II midfielder Kellan LeBlanc played a through ball to forward Stas Korzeniowski, who struck a shot into the near post corner.

In the 67th minute, Red Bulls II equalized after defender Julián Bazán found substitute forward Mijahir Jiménez, who evaded the goalkeeper to tie the match.

Five minutes later, in the 72nd minute, substitute midfielder Benjamin Rodriguez played a wide ball through ball to midfielder Dennis Gjengaar who played across far post to Dennis Nelich that was placed into the back of the net.

Jiménez scored his third career goal against Union II and leads the active roster in goals scored against the club.

The forward scored his 10th career goal for Red Bulls II.

Nelich scored his second goal of the season and has found the back of the net in consecutive matches for the first time in his Red Bulls II career.

The midfielder scored his fourth career goal for Red Bulls II.

Bazán recorded his first career MLS NEXT Pro assist and has a goal contribution in back-to-back matches.

Gjengaar earned his third assist of the season and has five goal contributions in his last three appearances. 

The midfielder has an assist in back-to-back matches.

The Norwegian’s three assists on the season are tied for the third most in MLS NEXT Pro and second most in the Eastern Conference.

Rodriguez recorded his first career MLS NEXT Pro assist.

Goalkeeper Tobias Szewczyk made a career high seven saves in the match.

Szewczyk’s seven saves is tied for fifth most in a single match in club history.

Defender Joyeux Mansanka Bungi made his MLS NEXT Pro debut for Red Bulls II.

With the victory, Red Bulls II have won three of their last four matches against Union II across all competitions.

With the win, New York improves to 3-4-2 through MLS NEXT Pro regular season play against Philadelphia.

Red Bulls II are unbeaten through their first eight matches for the first time in club history.
