Toronto opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a near-post strike from forward Elias Khodri.
In the 20th minute, after captain Nate Worth intercepted the ball, the midfielder lobbed it over the backline as forward Dennis Gjengaar found the bottom left corner to tie the match.
At the latter stages of the first half, Gjengaar took advantage of an errand Toronto pass and evaded the goalkeeper for the lead.
Eight minutes into the second half, after Toronto’s goalkeeper had a loose touch, winger Andy Rojas capitalized on the opportunity to double the lead for the home side.
In the 61st minute, the Red Bulls were successful in their counterattack as Rojas’ trivela pass found winger Dennis Nelich, who slotted it home.
Six minutes later, Gjengaar led the counterattack and passed it out wide substitute winger Benny Rodriguez, who found fellow substitute Christian Gallagher for the fifth goal.
Gjengaar scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season.
