Red Bull New York II (9-4-4, 32 pts.) earn a point in a 5-4 penalty kick shootout loss to FC Cincinnati 2 (4-11-1, 14 pts.) on Sunday night at Scudamore Field at NKU Soccer Stadium.
In the 20th minute, defender Jason Bori delivered a perfect long ball to fellow defender Dennis Gjengaar as the Norwegian found an unmarked forward Sean Baitinger for the lead.
Eight minutes later, the Red Bulls doubled their lead when Baitinger layed the ball off to midfielder Benny Rodriguez, who delivered it to forward Christian Gallagher as his shot had just enough power for the score.
In the early stages of the second half, Cincinnati was able to cut the deficit in half as forward Stefan Chirila scored from the penalty spot.
At the 80th minute, defender Aimar Modelo scored an own goal as Cincinnati came back from two goals down to tie the match.
The match went to a penalty kick shootout. However, Cincinnati prevailed in a 5-4 shootout win to secure the two points.
Baitinger scored his third goal of the season.
The forward has found the back of the net in three consecutive matches.
Gjengaar notched his seventh assist of the season, which leads the club.
Bori registered his first career MLS NEXT Pro assist.
Gallagher scored his fourth goal of the season, tied for second at the club.
Rodriguez added his third assist of the season.
Baitinger has registered four assists in the past three matches.
With the draw, New York extends their unbeaten streak to three matches.
